Michael Harris scored the winning penalty as Colorado Rapids 2 defeated Vancouver 2 in the MLS Next Pro Western Conference at the weekend.
The game ended 2-2 at the University of Denver Soccer Stadium but Convoy man Harris came on before full-time, taking Colorado’s 5th penalty to secure a 3-2 win.
Harris said: “To be a man down is very tough and they scored two on us when we had 11 men.
“The team really pulled through, we stuck together, we fought and I couldn’t be more proud of the team.”
Harris moved to the American side earlier this year after his contract with Derry City ended.
Despite being tabled a new pro deal by Derry manager Ruaidhrí Higgins, Harris opted to try his luck across the Atlantic.
Harris has experience with high pressure penalty shootouts, having scored the winning penalty for Derry City Under-19s in the 2021 Enda McGuill Cup final against Bohemians.
