Barry Mackey wins double gold at Europa Masters

Barry Mackey was on the top spot of the podium twice as he won two gold medals at the Europa Masters Championships in Lovosice, Czech Republic.

The Letterkenny AC athlete first took gold in the M55 1500m with a time of 5:25 on Saturday before winning in the same category in the Half Marathon.

Mackey’s time of 1.35.46 in the Half Marathon was a new Masters course record in the searing heat, but having had experience of running 10k races in Dubai, he’s no stranger to running in the high temperature conditions.

Barry was welcomed by the organisers and was even given a trophy for being the first Irish competitor at the event.
