Ger Stewart named Athletics Ireland’s new Director of Competition

Athletics Ireland have announced Tír Chonaill AC member Geraldine (Ger) Stewart as the new Director of Competition.

Ger, a native of Donegal Town, will start the role from the 1st of September 2022.

Ger has worked in the area of Health, Fitness and Adult Education for the past twenty years. Ger has won numerous national titles in Shot Put, as recently as this year at Masters level.

Ger has also competed internationally and continues to compete today. She has coached athletes at underage and senior level.

Ger has been working with Athletics Ireland in the Competition Department since April 2022.

Speaking at the announcement today Ger said: “I am delighted to be taking on the role of Director of Competition with Athletics Ireland and I look forward to working with everyone involved in ensuring our National Competitions are delivered to the highest standard.

“Our recent success in international competition shows the importance of building a strong competitive environment from Juvenile to Senior level.”

Hamish Adams, Athletics Ireland CEO said: “Ger brings a strong skillset and significant experience to this very important role within our organisation. Competition is a strategic pillar of our sport, and we aspire to consistently improve the standards and structure of our programmes. I have no doubt Ger will provide great leadership in this space.”
