Local Champion Jennifer Carr invites Donegal people to make every step count for the third successive Alzheimer’s Memory Walk.

The event takes place at Drumboe Woods, Stranorlar, tomorrow (Sunday) at 11:30am, during World Alzheimer’s Month 2022.

It is a family-friendly event suitable for all ages and abilities to unite together with their families and communities to raise awareness and funds for dementia supports.

The Alzheimer’s Society of Ireland (ASI) hopes that 3,000 walkers across Ireland will help us raise €250,000 for vital services that help to support so many people with dementia and their family carers across Ireland.

An estimated 2,451 people live with dementia in Donegal, and 64,000 people live with the condition in Ireland which will more than double in the next 25 years to over 150,000 by 2045.

Local Champion and ASI Donegal employee, Jennifer Carr.

Local Champion, and ASI Donegal employee Jennifer Carr is organiser of the Drumboe walk.

“Personally, I have seen how dementia impacts not only the person who has been diagnosed but also the families and friends connected to that person,” she explained.

“Alzheimer’s Memory Walk gives us a fantastic opportunity to not only raise funds but to raise awareness of dementia.

“On September 18th, I’ll be walking in memory of my grandmother, Marion, who had the most loving personality and is dearly missed.”

The ASI offers a range of services in the Donegal community such as Day Care Centres, Home Care, Social Clubs, Cafes and a Dementia Adviser, available to people living in North & East County Donegal.

“Funds raised from Alzheimer’s Memory Walk really help to keep these services going; I would ask everyone to help where they can and sign up on www.MemoryWalk.ie now,” she concluded.

Walk with your household, family, friends and pets (on leads); it’s guaranteed to be a fun event.

You can choose where you walk, or you can join the walk in Drumboe Woods at 11:30 am tomorrow.

Remember, on Sunday, September 18th – Let’s Walk Together.

Family-friendly prices are €8 for kids and €20 for adults.

Register on www.memorywalk.ie and get your Walk Participant Pack and t-shirt
