It was a sad day for Arranmore islanders on Friday when the local Postmaster and Postmistress stamped their last letters.
Popular Danny (pictured) and Noreen Martin finally retired after 29 years of loyal service.
They have been described as ‘very helpful and patient’ with their customers over the years.
The first Post Office came to the island in the 1860s and was located in Pinkie.
Later, it was in Mary Dolly’s family for 100 years, where the hostel is currently located, until the 1960s. Mary herself did it for 30 years up until Danny and Noreen took over.
Thankfully, a new era will begin on Tuesday when the new Post Office opens in the community centre.
Islanders have also paid tribute to John McCafferty for all his hard work over the last six months in order to retain the Post Office on the island.
Thanks to the Arranmore Guided Tour Instagram page for the lovely pic of Danny.
