The Rescue 118 helicopter was in action over the northwest coast of Donegal this afternoon on a search which turned out to be a false alarm with good intent.
The Coast Guard helicopter was tasked to the Falcarragh area after 2pm today following reports of a capsized vessel and a possible casualty in the water.
The helicopter searched over the stormy sea off Ballyness Bay and Killult.
It soon emerged that a small vessel had sunk in the storm, but there was nobody onboard at the time.
The helicopter was returned to base in Sligo by approx 4pm.
