Specsavers Letterkenny offers new ear wax cleaning service

SPECSAVERS Letterkenny is encouraging people to take a more proactive approach to their hearing health by offering customers an ear wax removal service to complement existing hearing services available.

The safest and easiest way to get rid of excess or stubborn earwax is to see a professional in Specsavers Letterkenny. Although our ears are designed to be self-cleaning and will normally produce enough earwax to prevent problems occurring, sometimes, if one experiences sudden or partial hearing loss it may be a direct result of a build-up of wax in the ear. By having your ears cleaned professionally in store, it can help ease ones’ discomfort and improve their overall hearing.

The wax removal technique used in store is microsuction. Ear microsuction is the quickest and safest method of earwax removal, including hard or impacted wax. The process is much more comfortable as it avoids touching the sensitive skin of the ear canal and has no contact with the eardrum. The medical suction device used by the team in store will quickly and carefully remove the earwax, whilst maintaining vision of the ear canal using a microscope.

For many people, problems with ear wax and overall ear health can arise when items such as cotton buds or ear plugs are inserted into the ear, causing irritation. Using cotton buds can interfere with the natural cleaning process and can push wax and debris further into the ear, which can in-turn cause a build-up or a blockage of the ear canal.

Watch here:

Martina McNulty, Specsavers Ireland audiology chairperson says: ‘Earwax is a good thing to have in your ears, that’s why your body naturally produces it. The sticky texture prevents bacteria and germs from moving further into the ear, where they can cause infections. Eventually, the earwax containing any trapped dirt or bacteria will simply fall out without you noticing, cleaning as it goes. An earwax build-up can cause itchy ears, discomfort, or earache, tinnitus, hearing loss or infections. At Specsavers Letterkenny, a hearing care professional will assess the extent of the build-up to decide which method is suitable for you and treat the problem accordingly.’

The hearing centre at Specsavers Letterkenny is open seven days a week for screenings and repairs. Our Audiology clinic for hearing tests and hearing aid fittings is open Monday – Saturday and our wax removal clinics are Monday, Wednesday and Saturday.

Did you know you can now get €1000 towards hearing aids with PRSI if you are eligible? for more information or to make an appointment with one of the team, please call 074 9167040, or visit www.specsavers.ie/stores/letterkenny-hearing.
