Funeral of popular Letterkenny golfer Mark Doherty to be held this week

The funeral for Strabane native Mark Doherty will take place in Letterkenny tomorrow, Tuesday, it has been confirmed.

Mr Doherty passed away on a golfing holiday in Portugal two weeks ago. The 63-year-old has been travelling with friends from the Letterkenny Golf Club when he fell ill at the Dom Pedro Millennium GC.

Mark was a long time member of Letterkenny Golf Club and served on the committee for many years. An accountant by profession, he held the role of treasurer through some difficult years.

Funeral Details:

Mark’s remains will repose at his family home in 68 Thorndale Letterkenny on Sunday 4th December from 4pm. Funeral mass on Tuesday 6th December at 11am in the Church of the Irish Martyrs, Letterkenny followed by burial in Umlagh Cemetery Carrigart.

Family flowers only please, donations in lieu, if desired, to St.John of God’s c/o any family member.

The beloved husband of Ann and much-loved father of Ciaran, he is predeceased by his late father Willie and mother Harriette, Strabane.

Deeply regretted by his brothers, Terry, Kevin, Liam, Paul and sister Mary, Strabane and sister Aileen, London.

Sadly missed by the McAlaney family, Carrigart. Fondly remembered by his extended family, neighbours and golfing friends.
