Raphoe Badminton Club were awarded the Club of the Year award at the 2022 Badminton Ireland Awards.

The annal Awards night took place at the Carlton Hotel Blanchardstown on Saturday the 3rd December, where Sam Magee collected the award on behalf of the club.

And it wasn’t the only award the club won on the night, as club member Kim Magee was also awarded ‘Young woman of the Year 2022’ for all her work in badminton this last year.

Kim Magee

A spokesperson for the club said: “A huge congratulations to absolutely every one of you. I can’t begin to start naming individuals here because it literally just isn’t possible, from the older generation of our club who still keep the show on the road (and keep us right) – to the 5 year olds we have starting out, this is because of you.

“Our vision in Raphoe for the past year has been to get people back playing badminton and creating a club for all, regardless of level or desire to be competitive. We have tried to foster an environment for all players. We may not always get it right but we do try. While you may hear a lot of noise from some of us there’s an entire army behind it.

“As Chloe Magee would say, ‘we’ve a lot of very good people in Raphoe right now’. I’m beyond proud of what we’ve done this year and what we will hopefully continue to do for the foreseeable. And to finish on a famous Goudie quote ‘it’s not what you do it’s the crew’.”
