The CEO of the North West Simon Community has issued a Christmas appeal following a surge in demand for services.
The homeless prevention charity reports a 30% increase in the number of households seeking aid this year.
CEO Noel Daly said: “So far in 2022, North West Simon Community has assisted 243 households. Of these households, 16 people were living rough when they first made contact, 10 were living with a threat of violence, 44 were facing the threat of eviction, and 138 households were living in conditions that equate with extreme overcrowding, unfit housing, or insecure accommodation.
“North West Simon Community has always been heavily reliant on public donations, but we need the public’s help NOW more than ever before. “
As of October 2022, 39 children and 101 Adults were homeless in Donegal, Leitrim, and Sligo. The average number of people homeless each month has increased from 43.6 in 2016 to 106.6 in the first ten months of 2022.
Mr Daly said the assistance the charity provides is needed more than ever before.
