A north Donegal woman has received recognition for lighting up people’s lives over the past 20 years.

Mary Whoriskey (main pic) received a Gala Retail Inspiration Award in recognition of her charitable work.

Each December the big-hearted Kerrykeel woman, and her husband Michael, turn their home in Gortcally into a winter wonderland with hundreds of lights for families to enjoy.

The Whoriskeys have raised €94,000 over the past 17 years, and their Christmas wish is to cross the €100,000 mark in 2022.

This year, all proceeds raised will go to the Donegal Down Syndrome charity. The lights will be on every night from 6pm to 11pm.

Mary was kindly nominated for the award by Fergus McAteer.

Included in the photo is David Mayne, Gala area manager and Paul Harkin, Harkin’s Gala owner.
