Gardaí in Donegal are warning the public about a scam in which fraudsters, pretending to be the HSE, are telling people they have been in close contact with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19.
The scam texts are being sent out beginning with ‘HSE:’ before warning the public they have been in close contact with someone who has tested positive for COVID.
The text then offers a link to book a mandatory test which the public are being urged to NOT click on the link and to block the number.
A spokesperson for the Gardaí said: “We are aware that some people have received this text message purporting to be from the HSE in connection with COVID close contacts. The HSE has confirmed these messages are not genuine therefore:
Do not click the link provided
Delete the text message and Block the sender
If you have suffered loss and/or provided your personal details to a third party as a result of this scam, contact your local Garda Station.”
