Donegal jockey Martin Harley suffered a horrible injury after a fall in Australia which resulted in neck fractures.

The Trentagh native moved to Queensland near the end of last year and suffered a heavy fall in a race at Doomben on Wednesday.

Despite the injuries, Martin is fortunate to have avoided an y spinal cord damage and he will not require surgery.

Vice Chairman of the Brisbane Racing Club Richard Morrison, who is a family friend of Harley let people know that he was ok after fears of a worse injury.

“We want people to know he’s OK,” Morrison said.

“His injuries will take time to heal, but he should make a full recovery. They have done the full body scan now, and there are multiple fractures, including two neck fractures.

“The biggest positive to come out of it is that he has escaped any spinal cord damage.

“He has a fractured shoulder and some busted ribs.”

Harley has picked up 15 winners since moving to the North East of Australia.
