Deep retrofit welcomed for houses in Glenties MD

Deep energy retrofit works are to be carried out on 40 social houses in Falcarragh and Annagry in 2023.

The programme is set to bring huge benefits to tenants to reduce fuel costs.

Béal an Atha, Fál Carrach agus Lochán Mhuire, Anagaire have been selected for the scheme in the Glenties Municipal District. The works will involve the installation of air to water heat pumps upgrade of windows and removal of solid fuel appliances /chimneys.

Councillor Michael Choilm Mac Giolla Easpuig said is it important to see the council investing in its housing stock at a time when fuel poverty is so high.

“The council is investing €1.2m into 150 houses. I believe this is a good news story, but 150 houses a year ain’t enough. We need to be investing massively into housing stock and the State also needs to invest in other private properties to support people during this fuel crisis caused by the capitalist classes,” Councillor Mac Giolla Easpuig said.

“I am glad I played a small part in getting the programme for the houses. I know those who received the deep retrofit to date are more than happy.

“I would ask anyone with questions to contact the council or myself 0858042050.

“Thanks to all Council staff that worked to get this programme and more work to do.”
