The amazing Slieve League cliffs in Donegal have gained a place on the list of Ireland’s Best Walks and Trails for 2023.

The Irish Independent Reader Travel Awards gave Slieve League the eighth spot on the list of best walks to do this year.

The list was topped by Glendalough Spinc and Glenealo Valley Loop in Wicklow.

The awards, chosen based on reader recommendations, praised Slieve League as one of Ireland’s most spectacular spots.

Travellers are advised to try hikes via the Bunglass viewpoint, or the inland Pilgrims’ Path, or the longer One Man’s Pass for very experienced hikers only.

“Amazing views, good stamina required but worth it,” said one reader.

Other’s hailed the “rugged views” “very sensitively developed” and “not over-commercialised” nature of the area.

The annual Reader Travel Awards are an influential list for many holidaymakers. Donegal’s Harvey’s Point Hotel is also celebrating a fifth-place award on the list of Ireland’s ten Best Hotels of 2023.
