As part of Erasmus Plus, The MFL Department at the Royal and Prior had the privilege of hosting a mother and daughter from Réunion Island for a week.

Mrs Anne Raynier and her daughter, Rebecca, hail from the remote island in the Indian Ocean which is a region of France.

Anne first came to Ireland in 1999 as a language assistant, working in the Rainey Endowed School in Derry alongside Sheena Mulholland, who is now teaching in the Royal.

As well as renewing their friendship after all these years, Anne spent the week shadowing various teachers in school and participating in lessons, getting a flavour of what school life is like in Donegal.

“It is hoped that links can be established between the Royal and Anne’s school, Henri Matisse,” Ms Mulholland said.
Her daughter Rebecca shadowed a second year student, Keren McKean, and was able to travel with the school hockey team to the Rainey, a lovely coincidence.

“The weather didn’t dampen Anne’s enthusiasm and both teachers and students here benefited much from her visit as well,” concluded Ms Mulholland.
