A speed check conducted on the N13 today by Buncrana Roads Policing Unit resulted in a vehicle being detected travelling at 140KPH in a 100 KPH speed zone.
A fixed charge penalty notice was issued (€160 fine & 3 penalty points).
It comes as a ‘Day of Action’ is currently underway in the Counties Donegal, Sligo and Leitrim as An Garda Síochána urges all road users to stay safe this St Brigid’s Bank Holiday Weekend.
Today’s operation will consist of high visibility rolling checkpoints and patrols across road corridors in the three counties from 9am to 9pm. This is being led by Roads Policing Units based at Carrick On Shannon, Sligo, Donegal Town, Letterkenny and Buncrana Garda Stations.
The operation will focus on the 4 key lifesaver offences of:
- Driving under the influence
- Speed
- Non wearing of Seat Belts
- Mobile Phone use
“The overall objective of today’s operation is to reduce the number of fatal and serious injury collisions and to keep people safe as they take to the roads for the Bank Holiday weekend,” a garda spokesperson said.
