Artist’s cottage could be dream restoration project

A historic cottage has gone on the market in Killybegs for the budget sum of €69,000.

The three-bed cottage at Meenakillew was once a getaway studio for TP Flanagan, one of Ireland’s finest landscape painters.

While it is in need of extensive renovation, the cottage is being marketed as the ideal property for writers, artists or creatives of any kind. Tucked away via a long tree-lined avenue, the cottage offers plenty of peace and quiet.

The cottage was originally a thatched cottage and has been renovated around 1982. During this time, a painting studio with a cathedral-style ceiling was added to the property.

The charming cottage contains lots of character in features such as wooden beams. However, in its present condition, it requires some structural work to the studio roof and interior decorating to the remainder.

According to the listing, the original homestead is located to the rear of the house and can be brought back to life to provide further accommodation.

The grounds are filled with mature rivers, streams, tall trees and many ‘additional surprises’ in a wonderful setting.
