The following are the results, reports, and fixtures for the Inishowen League for the past week.

FAI Junior Cup Last Sixteen – Superb Result for

Buncrana Hearts as last eight tie beckons.

Buncrana Hearts 2
Salthill Devon 1

Buncrana made a dream start to the opening half when they took the lead in
the first minute when Aaron McDaid robbed a defender and slotted low past
Manala in the Salthill goal. They had another chance then when Kieran McDaid
found Sean Mullan but his effort was well saved. The visitors upped the tempo
then with an O Rourke header from a corner cleared away by Eoin Murphy
before McKeowns twenty yards effort was superbly tipped around the post by
Kelly. Buncrana hit back and when Mullan sent Kieran McDaid away on the
right his cross found Jamie McDaid whose goal bound effort was deflected
wide. Salthill hit right back with Gallagher s shot tipped onto the post by Kelly
before Barrett broke clear down the left and again Kelly saved well. The visitors
then spurned a gilt edged chance when they were awarded a contested
penalty but Gallaghers effort was superbly saved diving to his left by Kelly.
Buncrana then had another good chance when Jamie McDaid squared to
Murphy but his shot was well saved by Manala. The Hearts were then hit with
a sucker punch on the stroke of half time when a long throw in was flicked on
for O’Rourke to head past Kelly from five yards and level the tie. On the restart
Vinny Faherty went close with a volley for the visitors while at the other end
Kieran McDaid volleyed an Aaron McDaid cross into the side netting. There
was a lull in the action then until the 77 th minute when Aaron McDaid
unleashed an effort from distance just off target. Salthill replied with Barrett
firing over from twenty yards. Buncrana finished strongly with Kieran McDaid
breaking on the right hand side and when his effort was saved by Manala the
ball broke to Murphy but he shot wide. Then on the stroke of full time Kieran
McDaid broke on the right again and when his cross fell to Murphy ten yards
out he fired to the bottom corner to send the home side into the quarter
finals for the first time in their history.

Jackie Crossan Premier Division

Greencastle FC 2
Aileach FC 2

There was a huge amount of action in the opening half with the teams sharing
four goals and numerous opportunities at either end. Brennan Moore for the
home side flashed a ball across the face of the Aileach goal but there were no
takers in the opening minute. Aileach responded and Dermot Doherty was
denied by Evan Davenport before Davenport punched an Aaron Nash cross
clear to Doherty who volleyed over. Greencastle then took the lead on 11
minutes after Nathan Harkin fed Seamus McLaughlin on the right and his low
cross was swept home from close range by Nigel McMonagle. Denver Kelly for
the visitors then was off target with a long rage effort before the home side
doubled their lead. Ciaran Diver s pass from inside his own half sent
McMonagle clear and he drilled superbly to the bottom corner from twenty
yards past Sean McGuinness. They almost made it three nil when a Gavin
Harkin cross found Moore but McGuinness was alert to save. Aileach then got
a goal back after Ethan canning broke on the left and his deep cross was
headed to the net by Darren McMonagle. Both sides had good chances then
with Nash breaking clear of the home defence but denied by Davenport while
at the other end Moore was off target from distance.Aileach got back on terms
then in the 35 th minute when a Caoimhin McFeely effort fell perfectly into the
path of Thomas McMonagle to slot home from twelve yards. Nash then had a
volley over the bar before the same player was denied by a superb Micael Barr
tackle. At the other end McMonagle and Moore were off target with efforts
before a Moore free kick was finger tipped on to the bar by McGuinness as the
half ended. The action continued in the second half with McGuinness
smothering well at McMonagles feet before gathering a Michael Henry effort
from the edge of the area. Aileach replied and when Nash got on the end of a
long ball he teed up Darren McMonagle but Davenport made a good
save.Greencastle had the majority of the chances with Diver firing just wide,
Nigel McMoangle seeing an effort tipped around the post and Brennan Moore
going close with two late free kicks. At the other end McFeely cut in from the
right and fired into the side netting before Nash saw a late effort saved as the
honours ended even.

Clonmany Shamrocks 0
Moville Celtic 1

Clonmany had the best of the opening exchanges with Shane McCaul setting
up Aaron Porter in the fourth minute but his effort landed on the roof of Taylor
Clarkes goal. Jason Devlin then found space inside the area and when Clarke
parried his effort Paddy Doherty following up drilled wide. Moville responded
on 17 minutes and when Michael McNaught squared the ball to Aaron
McGurk he shot over. Midway through the half the home side put together a
good move with Gareth Bradley finding Porter on the left and when his cross
was flicked on by Devlin to Matthew McLaughlin he fired across goal and wide.
Moville responded and their best chance came when McNaught crossed to
McGurk whose effort was cleared by Bradley on the line. But the home side
threatened again before the break when McCaul and Devlin combined well to
release Porter but his effort drifted just wide. Moville dominated the second
half but they failed to break down a dogged home defence and as a result
chances were at a premium. Aaron McGurk had a header just wide and it
looked as if the game was heading for a draw. But in injury time Moville kept
their title hopes alive when the home defence only half cleared a free kick to
the edge of the area where Ryan Morrow had time to control and fire a
stunning effort to the top corner to clinch all three points.

Glengad United 3
Illies Celtic 0

Glengad got off to a dream start when they opened the scoring in the first
minute after John McDaid found Joe Doherty who fired a brilliant twenty yards
effort to the top corner past Johnathan Noone. They doubled their lead then
on 15 minutes when a Stephen McLaughlin corner found John G McLaughlin at
the back post and he beat a defender before crossing for Terence Doherty to
volley home from eight yards. The home side almost made it three shortly
afterwards but Joe Doherty was unlucky to see his first time effort from a John
G McDermott pass crash back off the post. The visitors finally responded with
Brendan Doherty breaking on the right and crossing for Paddy Curran but from
twelve yards he blazed over the bar. Glengad had the last chance of the half
after Stephen McLaughlin broke forward and sent a ball over the top for
Terence Doherty whose attempted lob cleared the crossbar. Aw llies were
much better in the second half and on 55 minutes Paul Doherty sent Brendan
Doherty away on the right and when he cut into the area he fired straight at
Ciaran Gallagher in the home goal. They were unlucky then after a good run
from Kevin McGonigle saw him slip the ball to Brendan Doherty whose fifteen
yards effort crashed off the post. Glengad broke away in the 80 th minute and
when John McDaid s ballover the top found Stephen McLaughlin he lobbed the
advancing Noone to make it three nil. Illies had the final chance with a Paul
Doherty free tipped over the bar by Gallagher.

Culdaff FC 4
Cockhill Youths 2

Played under the lights on Saturday evening Cockhill started well and opened
the scoring on 8 minutes after Adam Duffy found space inside the area and
while his initial effort was well saved by Dermot Callaghan he reacted quickest
to hammer the ball home from twelve yards. But Cockhill suffered a blow
minutes later when Duffy landed awkwardly after an aerial challenge and had
to be replaced. Culdaff came well into the game then with a Thomas O Brien
free parried away by Eoin Colhoun for Jack McLaughlin to shoot into the side
netting from a tight angle. On 28 minutes McLaughlin saw a free kick crash off
the wall before blazing the follow up over the bar. Good interplay between
Aidan Cunningham, O Brien and McLaughlin released Michael Coyle who shot
narrowly wide from ten yards. Culdaff continued to threaten with Eugene
McLaughlins cross finding Jack McLaughlin who turned superbly and saw his
deft chip over Colhoun brilliantly cleared off the line by Ryan Downey. The
home side deservedly levelled matters on 42 minutes after Cunningham
intercepted a Colhoun throw out and slammed the ball home from sixteen
yards. Cockhill replied on the stroke of half time when Paul Mclaughlin sent
Paul Duffy running onto a ball over the top and his volleyed effort was superbly
saved by Callaghan. Culdaff then took the lead on 58 minutes after Bryan
McCandless dispossessed a defender and unleashed a stunning twenty five
yards effort to the bottom corner. Ten minutes later the home side increased
their lead after an O Brien long free kick was cleared to the edge of the area
where ben Curley controlled on his chest and volleyed superbly to the top
corner. Culdaff were rampant at this stage and within minutes had made it
four one when Coyle won possession in midfield and sent McCandless away on
the right . His excellent cross was sidefooted home from five yards by Jack
McLaughlin. Cockhill tried to hit back and Duffy fired a free kick over the bar
on 83 minutes. They got a goal back then after a left wing Eoin McLaughlin
cross was expertly flicked to the net giving Callaghan no chance. But the home
side held on to record their first league win of the season.

Strand Hotel Division One
Redcastle United 4
Gleneely Colts 0
The home side began well and on 7 minutes Stephen Grant broke on the right
and crossed for Marc Bell who fired just the wrong side of the post. They did
break the deadlock midway through the half after Bell released Darragh
McConway through the middle to round Oran Raymond and slot home. On 33
minutes they had another chance when a Jack McConalogue free found the
unmarked Alan Clarke but he headed wide when well placed. Gleneely
responded and when Shay Harkin ‘s cross picked out Cory O Brien he fired just
over the bar. The home side doubled their lead in the opening minute for the
second half after McConway crossed from the right for Clarke to head home
from ten yards. Five minutes later the same players almost made it three nil
after a McConway cross just eluded the inrushing Clarke at the back post.
Gleneely kept battling and went close after Harkin broke on the right and
crossed to John Doherty whose low effort was well saved by Michael McCole.
Redcastle then sealed the win when Stephen Grant advanced from midfield
past a defender and slotted low to the corner. They added a fourth when Gavin
Grant corssed for Jack McConalogue to volley home from twelve yards.

Carn FC 3
Aileach Res 0
This was a very tight encounter at St Patricks Park and it wasn’t until the half
hour when the first attacking threat arrived. When it did it was the home side
who . the deadlock with Cian Doherty crossing from the left for Brandon
Browen to volley superbly past Dylan Clarke from the edge of the area. They
doubled their lead just before the break after good interplay in midfield ended
with Kyran Cantwell sliding the ball through for Cian Burke to slot low past
Clarke. The second half was a midfield battle with defences on top . Aileach
tried hard to get back into the game but the home defence stood firm. The
home side then added a late third to clinch the tie when Cantwell again
threaded the ball through for Burke who rounded the keeper and slotted
home.

Greencastle Youths 2
QPS 1

Greencastle and QPS met with the game reversed to Muff what was a very
even hard fought game. Greencastle took the lead halfway through the first
half when following a series of corners one finally paid off.  Ben Doherty sent in
a great corner and DJ Canavan scored with a powerful header. QPS equalised
just before half time after getting in behind the Greencastle Defence. The ball
fell to the feet of 17 year old Lee Rutherford who scored his first goal in senior
football with a rocket into the bottom corner from the edge of the box.Th e
second half continued in the same vein with both teams battling hard. QPS
nearly took the lead when an unstoppable effort crashed of the post from
about thirty yards out .With both teams tiring a draw looked a sure thing but
Luke Bradley scored a late winner for Greencastle after good pressing from
Ronan Doherty chasing a long ball.

Clonmany Res 1
Buncrana Res 2

Buncrana started well and opened the scoring in the 8 th minute after an Arlen
Doherty snapshot rebounded off the post and Clonmany conceded a free kick
on the edge of the area. Cillian Downeys free found Kevin O’Loughlin who
looped a header over Kieran Friel and into the far corner. They doubled their
lead on 27 minutes when a Michael Doherty corner was not cleared and after
a scramble in the area Aaron Cleary slotted home from close range. Clonmany
rallied andgot agoal back before the interval when after forcing successive
corners a mark McLaughlin delivery found the unmarked Mark Doherty who
looped a header over Oran McBride in the visitors goal. The second half saw
the home side dominate but struggle to create clear openings. Mark
Mclaughlin went close with a half volley midway through the half before the
same player played a one two with Liam Hirrell before floating an effort just
over the top.Their final chance came when a Ben Gill looping cross was flicked
on by Mark Doherty for substitute Brian Doherty whose header was well
saved by McBride.

Inish Engineering Division Two A
Moville Res 3

Sea Rovers 3
Rovers began this game well with Daniel Gallagher seeing an effort saved low
to his right by Stephen Teles before Keelan Doherty had an effort cleared off
the line by John McGeady. In their first attacking threat the home side opened
the scoring after21 minutes when Andrew Burke sent Oisin Lynch clear to fire
low past Mark McLaughlin from sixteen yards. Rovers kept pressing and both
Michael Glackin and Ciaran Doherty fired over from corners. They did get back
on terms on 36 minutes when Ciaran Doherty split the home defence for
Declan McGonagle t run onto and slip the ball low past Teles. On the stroke of
half time McGonagle was denied another goal when Lorcan Gillen made a
superb goal line clearance. After a tame start to the second half Rovers took
the lead on the hour when McGonagle advanced into the area on the left and
from a tight angle squeezed the ball past Teles. At the other end Conor
Lafferty had a free kick from the edge of the area well saved by Mark
Mclaughlin. Rovers then looked to have sealed the win when they went three
one up on 75 minutes. McGonagles superb pass sent Keelan Doherty clear and
he expertly lobbed the advancing Teles from the edge of the area. But Moville
were thrown a lifeline on 85 minutes when Lafferty converted a penalty low to
Mclaughlins right hand side after he had been upended. Then then salvahed a
point in the final minute when Mateus Indyka advanced on the right and
crossed for Lafferty to sweep the ball to the bottom corner from ten yards.

Cockhill Res 3
Rashenny FC 2
Cockhill started the match well, taking the game to Rashenny in the early
stages and made that early pressure count taking a deserved lead after 15
minutes when Dean O'Donnell reacted first to a loose ball in box to slot home
from six yards past Rashenny keeper Gavin McLaughlin. Cockhill continued to
press and increased their lead midway though the first half with some great
quick passing down the right releasing Shane McLaughlin who drove in to the
box and played a perfect pass in to Caolan Moore who fired home first time
from 10 yards low past Gavin McLaughlin .Rashenny showed their experience
and gradually found their way back in to the match and reduced the deficit just
before half time when David McLaughlin was given time to cross and Tommy
Doherty was first to react to the breaking ball to prod it home under Cockhill's
keeper Darragh O'Donell. The second half was a tighter affair with clear cut
chances limited. However it was Cockhill who made the second half
breakthrough on the counter and when Connor McDaid set the ball back to

Kieran McCallion his first time effort from 25 yards found it's way in to the top
corner giving Gavin McLaughlin no chance .Rashenny piled forward looking for
a way back in to the match and got a goal back with 20 minutes to go after
some hesitancy in the Cockhill defence allowed Shane Gordon to get to the ball
first and direct the ball in to the net over the stranded Darragh O'Donnell to
set up a tense finish.Credit to the young Cockhill team who handled the late
onslaught well to claim a very hard fought win.

Illies Res 4
Culdaff Res 0

The visitors had the first chance of the game when Darragh McCormick broke
free but saw his shot well saved by Kieran Sharkey. Illies replied with Oran
Dogherty finding Ronan Doherty who failed to hit the target when well placed.
The home side then broke the deadlock on 26 minutes when a corner was
cleared to the edge of the area for William McLaughlin to shoot first time to
the roof of the net. Illies increased their lead five minutes later when the
unmarked Paddy Doherty rose highest to head home Marty Coyle s corner kick.
Before the break they made it three nil after a swift counter attack saw Oran
Doherty square the ball to his father Paddy who stepped inside a defender
before drilling low to the bottom corner from fourteen yards. Culdaff battled
well on the restart with Jason Mclaughlin firing one good chance over the bar
when well placed. Then Niall Gordon broke through the home defence but his
effort was blocked by the legs of Sharkey. Illies sealed the points then on 77
minutes when Ronan Hegarty broke on the right and crossed for Liam O
Connor to sidefoot past Adam McGonigle from twelve yards .

Inish Engineering Division Two B
QPS Youth 3
Glengad Res 0
The home side dominated the opening half without creating many clear cut
chances. Aham harkin had the first half chance heading over from a Jason
McCallion free before Harkin laid the ball off to Cillian McEleney who also
drove over the crossbar. Their best chance came on 35 minutes after Josh
McLaughlin turned a defender on the edge of the area but was denied by a
good save from Michael McLaughlin. Oisin McIntyre and Mclaughlin then

comnined to tee up Ronan Lafferty but his effort was always rising over the
bar. Before the break McLaughlin had another effort from distance
comfortably gathered by the Glengad custodian. QPS broke the deadlock on 52
minutes after McIntyre crossed from the right for McLaughlin to sidefoot home
from ten yards. Glengad rallied and PJ McDaid fired over the bar from a good
position before a Christopher Doherty free was well saved by Stephen Slattery.
At the other end McEleneys cross found Mclaughlin whose close range effort
was blocked by the legs of Glengad keeper. The home side then made it two nil
on 61 minutes when McIntyre pounced on a loose ball insode the area to drill
low to the corner from fifteen yards. The visitors kept battling and after a
Caolan McColgan cross found Calvin White his header was saved by Slattery.
Slattery ‘s long kick out then came off a defender into the path of substitute
Dean Hegarty who calmly slotted the ball low to the corner. Glengad had the
final chance when McDaid pounced on an underhit back pass but was denied
by a superb Eamon McCool tackle.

Aileach Youth 3
Rashenny Res 0
Aileach started well and took an early lead after good interplay between Kevin
Boyle and Ethan O’Toole ended with O’Toole finishing well from twelve yards.
They eventually went two up midway through the half after a Boyle corner
was headed home by the unmarked James Wallace. Rasheney replied and
before the break Ryan O’Donnell was just off target with a good effort. On the
restart Abdul Al Rasheed went close for the visitors before at the other end
Shay Bowen fired over the bar. Aileach sealed the points when Ryan Long
forced the ball home from close range after the visitors failed to clear a corner.
Both sides had late chances with Boyle for the home side and O Donnell for the
visitors failing to convert.
Dunree Res 6
Redcastle Res 0

In the opening exchanges Adam Callaghan fired just wide for the home side
while at the other end a Shay Sweeney shot on the run as well saved by Philip
Doherty. Redcastle then had two glorious chances to open the scoring when
firstly Darren Harkins effort came off the bar and then Ben Foster headed over
when well placed. Dunree took the lead on 25minutes after Mark Moran beat
a defender and fired low to the bottom corner from fourteen yards. Minutes later Moran turned provider when he set up Callaghan to slot home from close
range. Moran then made it three nil converting from close range before Oisin
McGettigan dispossessed a defender and calmly slotted home to leave the
home side four nil ahead at the break. Redcastle started the second half well
and Jason Lynch fired just wide before Oisin O Kane had a header saved by
Doherty. But Dunree ended the game well on top with Jamie Brosnan
outpacing the home defence to cooly finish low to the corner. Quigley in the
visitors goal made a superb stop to deny Callaghan but was powerless to
prevent Callaghan converting the rebound to finish the scoring.
