Donegal County Council is being urged to place warning signs and safety measures at an accident blackspot in Glenmaquin, near Convoy.
The Mayor of Letterkenny-Milford Cllr Donal ‘Mandy’ Kelly is highlighting the area following a crash on Sunday morning in which a car went off the road.
The crash could have been a very serious accident and the driver was lucky to escape without any serious injuries, Cllr Kelly said.
“This is a very dangerous corner. There are three generations of the one family lobbying for safety measures there since the 1960s and they have got nowhere,” he said.
“I have been told there was a serious accident at the corner back in the 1960s where a person was left with life-changing injuries.”
Cllr Kelly met with the local Roads Supervisor at the site today.
“I have requested to Donegal County Council that safety signs be put up on either side of the corner saying ‘dangerous bend ahead’ and that light up arrows are put on the corner itself.
“I’ll also be lobbying for line markings on this road.”
Cllr Kelly said he will be raising the issue as a motion the March meeting of the municipal district to get the safety measures implemented as soon as possible.
