Letterkenny Blaze Basketball Club has presented a cheque for €2,965 to the local branch of Saint Vincent de Paul.
The cash was raised after the club ran their annual ‘Playing for Others’ fundraising event on Saturday 17th December last.
This annual festive event was established many years ago by coach Declan Nee.
Declan saw the great work and support that St. Vincent de Paul give to people in our town especially around Christmas time. He wanted to feel the Christmas spirit in our club by combining some fun and fundraising together on this day.
There is always a great atmosphere on the day with Christmas music playing and basketball being played. All of the teams from u8 to u18 make a special effort to give as generously as they can on this day to our local SVDP.
As well as this, it is always lovely to see some of our past Blaze members come back to play basketball and afterwards have a mince pie and cup of tea.
Lynda McGuinness, club chairperson said that “Letterkenny Blaze Basketball Club were delighted to be able to organise the ‘Playing for Others’ event this season.
“On the approach to Christmas, we encourage players not to forget about the needs of others and their understanding of this is clearly evident in the support for the ‘Playing for Others’ event.
“Thanks to all the players and families who so kindly supported the event in December. A huge thanks also to all the coaches and committee member who made the event happen on the day”.
The club proudly presented a cheque for €2965 to two volunteers from our local SVDP branch on Saturday 25th February by the u10 boys and girls.
Well done to all the volunteers who continue to do such valuable work in our community.
