US President Joe Biden has said he intends to visit Northern Ireland and the Republic in April to mark the 25th anniversary of the Good Friday Agreement.
President Biden received a formal invitation from British prime minister Rishi Sunak as the pair held talks in San Diego.
“I know it’s something very special and personal to you. we’d love to have you over,” Mr Sunak said.
Speaking on the Good Friday Agreement, Mr Biden said: “Twenty-five years? It seems like yesterday.”
“It’s my intention to go to Northern Ireland and the Republic,” he added.
It’s expected that President Biden will visit Dublin, Belfast and his ancestral home of Mayo.
Taoiseach Leo Varadkar has said he was looking forward to discussing the visit during his meeting with President Biden in Washington for St. Patrick’s Day.
