SF councillor condemns vandalism at Protestant church

A Sinn Fein Councillor has condemned an act of ‘wanton vandalism’ on a Protestant church in Inishowen.

Cllr Terry Crossan said he was ‘very disappointed’ to hear of the damage to the perimeter wall of St. Peter’s Church of Ireland in Muff.

“A number of coping stones were dislodged and strewn about the grass, causing significant damage and destabilising this very old wall,” he explained.

Metal grills were also removed from the windows of the old stables in an attempt to gain entry.

“While not wanting to point the finger at anyone, I would ask parents to ensure that young people are made aware of the implications of becoming involved in anti-social behaviour, especially on church property or involving any important heritage structures.”

Thankfully, Cllr Crossan said, repairs were to begin to repair the wall at the weekend.
