Illistrin National School has been granted planning permission for a major new extension.
The proposed development includes the demolition of temporary prefab classrooms to make way for the construction of a 3,189 Sq m two-storey extension. The new building will include 16 general classrooms, a PE hall, seven set rooms, toilets, general office and stores.
A separate single storey extension will include a further four classrooms and a staff room. The development will also see the refurbishment of part of the existing school.
There will be changes to the layout of the site to cater for up to 40 staff car parking spaces as well as an additional 24 for picking up and dropping off children. There will also be the provision of 60 cycle parking spaces and a new exit onto the main road.
