Biden Irish visit confirmed but no Donegal stops included!

The White House has confirmed US President Joe Biden will arrive on the island of Ireland next Tuesday, in a visit which will include trips to Dublin, Mayo and Louth.

President Biden will first travel to Belfast to mark the “tremendous progress” since the signing of the Good Friday Agreement 25 years ago.

From next Wednesday until Friday, he will hold various engagements in counties Dublin, Louth and Mayo.

President Biden can trace his ancestry to Ireland’s west and east coasts, specifically Ballina in Co Mayo and the Cooley Peninsula in Co Louth.

However, despite the best efforts of one prominent American politician, Donegal will not be included in his tour.

Earlier this month, Congressman Brendan Boyle – the son of Glencolmcille native Francis Boyle – said he hoped for Donegal to be a stop on the tour.

“The only campaigning I’ll be doing while I’m there is trying to get him to go up to Donegal and meet with my aunts in Mayo,” Congressman Boyle said.
