Almost €400,000 has been awarded to Donegal community groups under the Community Monuments Fund.

Minister for Agriculture, Charlie McConalogue, has confirmed that seven projects here will share a total of €384,532.

The full list of awardees is below:

“Our archaeological heritage in Donegal is a huge and important part of our country, both in the fabric of who we are as Donegal people and as important markers of our history,” Minister McConalogue said.

“It is great that almost €400k will go towards the upkeep of seven such projects in Donegal this year. Thanks to all of those involved in keeping these projects going.”

The fund was first established in 2020 to provide investment in Ireland’s archaeological heritage. It invests in archaeological heritage and helps owners and custodians of archaeological monuments to safeguard them into the future for the benefit of communities and the public.

Funding is prioritised for local authorities, private owners and custodians and community groups for the care, conservation, maintenance, protection and promotion of archaeological monuments. Total funding available nationally for projects under Community Monuments Fund 2023 is €6,000,000.
