Impressive Red Hughs make it two from two this afternoon after easily overcoming newly promoted Letterkenny Gaels at the Thorn Road.

Letterkenny Gaels 0-05

Red Hughs 1-17

By Charlie Collins

The scoreline says it all as an impressive, and youthful, Red Hughs dominated this game at Pairc na nGael from start to finish. The men from the Cross and Killygordon were ably led by the stylish Jack Gillespie who kicked a personal tally of  0-9. The visitors, who unexpectedly beat a fancied Four Masters last week, took control from the start and were 0-10 to 0-03 ahead at half-time.

Gillespie, son of the legendary Lyndon, was accurate from both frees (0-4) and play (0-3), with further scores from Odhran Doherty, Darragh McMenamin and Calvin Bradley (main pic). Gaels did respond well in the early stages with points from Shay Doherty, Ronan Frian and Cormac Cannon which left the score 0-03 to 0-05 after fifteen minutes. However, the visitors took over completely after that.

Half-time Letterkenny Gaels 0-3, Red Hughs 0-9

The second-half was one-way traffic again with Red Hughs registering seven points in a row. Gillespie and Bradley both added two with others from Peadar McGlinchey, James Doherty and young sub, Cathair Browne, to make it 0-17 to 0-03 before Gaels added two through Doherty and Frain.                                                                                                                              Red Hughs had created several good goal chances but had been denied by excellent saves by Ryan Graham. However, they finally got one when Graham again denied Calvin Bradley but Cathair Browne followed up to poked the ball to the net.    It’s two wins from two for Eugene Browne’s men, an impressive start to their league campaign.
