Tributes paid to young Galway crash victims

The two teenagers who died in a car crash in Galway on Easter Monday have been described as treasured members of their school community.

Orla Jackson said Lucas Joyce and Kirsty Bohan, both 14 years of age, died in a crash outside Headford in north Co Galway at around 5.45am yesterday morning.

A 14-year-old girl and a 13-year-old boy were also in the vehicle and were hospitalised with injuries. The injured girl has been transferred to Beaumont Hospital in Dublin for treatment.

The tragic accident was a single-vehicle crash. It is believed the car the teenagers were travelling in may have collided with a tree.

All four teenagers were pupils of Presentation College. The school released photos of the deceased today and said: “We have lost two treasured members of our school community today and two other members of our community are injured. We pray for all the families and friends of those involved that they may be granted some peace and succour at this tragic time. We also pray for our own school community, that we may find the strength to support each other and carry on. We ask for your support, prayers and the space to grieve as a school community.”

The school, which is closed for Easter holidays, opened its hall today to provide support to students.
