Sad passing of noted Gaoth Dobhair historian, Tony ‘Sheonaí’ McHugh

The death has taken place of noted Gaoth Dobhair historian and collector, Tony ‘Sheonaí’ McHugh.

Late of Stramartin, Derrybeg, originally of Brinlack, he passed away today at Letterkenny University Hospital.

The late Mr McHugh worked for decades in the community development sector in west Donegal, with a special interest in local and social history. He was also a former manager of An Chrannóg and put together a comprehensive local library there.

Sadly missed by his loving wife Sheila, daughter Regina, son Adrian, sister-in-law Sábha (Sophia) cousin John McGeady and extended McGeady family and friends.

Predeceased by his mother Máire Sheonaí and brother-in-law Tom.

His remains will repose at his home tomorrow, Thursday, and on Friday from 11am to 8pm. Rosary nightly at 8pm. Funeral Mass in St. Mary’s Church, Derrybeg on Saturday at 11am, with burial afterwards in Magheragallon Cemetery.
