Two Status Yellow wind warnings are now in place for the entire country.
A wind warning is in operation in Leinster, Cavan, Donegal, Monaghan, Leitrim, Mayo, Roscommon, Sligo, Tipperary and Waterford.
This warning will remain in place until 8pm.
The forecaster has advised of widespread gusts of between 80km/h and 110km/h, stronger in exposed areas.
The UK Met Office has issued a Yellow warning for counties Antrim, Armagh, Down, Fermanagh, Tyrone and Derry.
This will come into effect at 11am and is due to remain in place until 8pm.
Counties Clare, Cork, Kerry, Limerick and Galway are also under a Status Yellow wind warning until 5pm.
People are being warned of very strong west to northwest winds developing, with widespread gusts of 80 to 110km/h expected.
Met Éireann said winds will be stronger in coastal areas and over higher ground, with wave overtopping possible.
