Donegal Minister Charlie McConalogue was part of the Irish delegation to welcome President Joe Biden to Áras an Uachtaráin today.
Minister McConalogue had the opportunity to share a few words with the US President as he visited President Michael D Higgins’ residence this morning.
President Biden inspected a military guard of honour, and signed the visitors’ book. He also planted an oak tree and rang the Bell of Peace. The bell was erected in 2008 to commemorate the tenth anniversary of the Good Friday Agreement.
Members of the Irish delegation included Tánaiste Micheál Martin, who was met by the Defence Forces Chief of Staff Lieut Gen Seán Clancy, as well as Secretary-General to the President Orla O’Hanrahan. Garda Commissioner Drew Harris.
President Biden’s tour continued to the nearby Farmleigh House, where he met Taoiseach Leo Varadkar. A joint address will be made to the Oireachtas this afternoon.
