Donegal model and nurse Grainne Gallanagh was left heartbroken as she left her family in Buncrana yesterday to begin a new chapter of her life in Australia.

Grainne was accompanied by her boyfriend Ryan Coleman but admitted it was heartaching to leave her family with whom she is so close.

Grainne posted on social media ‘I’m in the airport and we’re just about to board our flight.

‘I’ve been up since 4am. We left the house at 5am, and got the bus down to the airport. Leaving the house this morning was actually even worse than I thought it was going to be.

‘It was like a wake, it was awful. But we’re here now. I feel like that’s the worst part over with. The flight now will hopefully be alright. I’ve a few books and stuff. I’m not going to cry I’m fine, it’s just…’

Later in the day she said that her ‘heart is broke but also excited for new adventures’ with Ryan.

Friends including some well-known celebrities tried to cheer Grainne up as she made her way Down Under.

Brian Dowling wrote: ‘Darling I going to have to come to Australia. What will @taggykk do now for our Christmas night out. Have the BEST TIME.’

Ireland AM presenter Muireann O’Connell said: ‘Bye girl! Safe travels and looking forward to the sunny stalk!’
