US President Joe Biden will continue on his four day visit of Ireland today when he meets President Michael D Higgins this morning at Áras an Uachtaráin.

He will also hold a bilateral meeting with Taoiseach Leo Varadkar at Farmleigh House, before making a joint address to the Houses of the Oireachtas this afternoon.

He met crowds of people in both Dundalk and Belfast yesterday on walkabouts.

But today will have more of a political theme.

The US President will plant an oak tree and ringing the Peace Bell Áras an Uachtaráin which was erected in 2008 to commemorate the tenth anniversary of the Good Friday Agreement.

Among those attending will be Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs Micheál Martin, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, and US Secretary of Agriculture, Tom Vilsack.

The Irish delegation will also include Secretary General to the President Higgins Orla O’Hanrahan, Agriculture Minister Charlie McConalogue and Garda Commissioner Drew Harris.

Among President Higgins’ guest will be former soccer player Paul McGrath.

Afterwards, Mr Biden will travel across the Phoenix Park for a bilateral meeting with Taoiseach Leo Varadkar at Farmleigh House.

It is expected they will discuss the legacy of the Good Friday Agreement; efforts to restore the political institutions in Northern Ireland; as well as US-Irish relations.
