Personal information on survivors of rape and sexual abuse has been stolen in a ransomware attack on a Derry data company.
The attack was launched last month on Evide, a company which manages data for about 140 organisations across Ireland and the UK.
Six organisations based in the Republic of Ireland have been affected, many of which deal with sexual abuse, including four in Dublin. RTE News reports that data of up to 2,000 victims, survivors and suspected perpetrators may be affected.
Dublin-based One in Four, a charity that works with adults who have experienced childhood sexual abuse, has been contacting users.
Specialist cyber crime officers from the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) are investigating the attack with the assistance of An Garda Síochána and the Garda National Cyber Crime Bureau.
