The government has agreed to increase the funds available under the Vacant Property Refurbishment Grant scheme.
Allocations will rise from the current €30,000 to €50,000 for vacant properties and from €50,000 to €70,000 for derelict properties.
The scheme will also be extended to cover houses built up to 2007, instead of 1993, and will be available for properties intended for rental as well as owner-occupied.
The Vacant Property Refurbishment Grant was launched last July for properties in towns and villages and expanded in November to cities and other rural areas.
