Organisers of Darkness Into Light in Buncrana have unveiled a new route for this weekend’s fundraising walk.

The 5k event will travel through Swan Park for the first time, due to the new renovations in the area.

The event begins and ends at Scoil Mhuire Buncrana, starting at 4.15am on Saturday May 6th, 2023.

Everyone is welcome to take part in this event and raise vital funds for Pieta’s life-saving services. Thirteen walks have been organised in communities across Donegal this year.

Suicide continues to be a real problem in Ireland with 1/10 young adults having attempted to take their own life at some point, as per recent Department of Health report.

In 2022 Pieta delivered over 50,000 hours of one-to-one therapy online and over 6500 unique clients in locations nationwide, answered almost 100,000 calls and texts to the 24/7 crisis helpline and supported close to 700 households bereaved by suicide.

Over 30 % of Pieta’s annual funds are raised every year by people taking part and supporting Darkness Into Light.

Last year over 120,000 people took part in Darkness Into Light across 14 countries in 4 continents raising €4million in aid of Pieta’s life-saving support services for those in suicidal distress and bereavement through suicide.
