Update: A status yellow thunderstorm warning has been issued for Donegal this Saturday evening.
Road users are being advised to take care due to severe downpours.
A thunder plump has hit Letterkenny in the last hour, bringing unseasonal hail.
Met Eireann has warned of a risk of spot flooding.
The weather alert says: “Thunderstorm activity may persist for a few more hours, mostly in northern Donegal. Lightning, hail and heavy downpours are possible, leading to some surface water flooding and poor travel conditions.”
The alert is valid until 8pm.
Showers will die out early tonight and the rest of the night will be dry with some clear spells.
The forecast for the day says: “A mix of cloud and sunny spells today with scattered slow-moving showers.
“Some will be heavy, with a chance of thundery downpours and spot flooding. Top temperatures of 15 to 17 Celsius in mostly light southerly breezes.”
