Donegal County Council has been urged to resume cutting lawns for older tenants in Letterkenny’s social housing estates.
Residents have expressed disappointment after the service was halted due to budget constraints.
Councillor Jimmy Kavanagh brought the issue before the Letterkenny-Milford MD on Tuesday and asked the council to review the scheme before the summer for residents of Beechwood, Glenwood, Derryveagh, Oldtown and Muckish Avenue.
“It’s a source of worry for people that it’s not being done. They are not able to do it themselves,” he said.
Cllr Kavanagh asked the council to try to find a way to get the service back on the annual maintenance programme, adding that the number of gardens to maintain would not be high.
In response, the council said that it cuts approximately 100 acres of grass in Letterkenny town, between open spaces and parks. An increasing workload led to older persons’ properties being removed from the scheme – a service which dates back to the Letterkenny Town Council.
Following the passing of Cllr Kavanagh’s motion, the Housing and Roads services of the Letterkenny-Milford MD is now set to review the issue and examine ways to find a resolution.
