Recruitment is set to get underway ‘shortly’ for a new night-time advisor in Buncrana.
The Inishowen town is one of nine towns and cities to benefit from a new pilot initiative to help “create a more vibrant, diverse and open Night-Time Economy”.
The role of the advisors is to work with businesses, communities, venues, residents and artists to create a more vibrant night-life for all and bring vitality back to town centres in a safe and sustainable way.
The learnings from the 9 pilots will inform the government’s approach to be taken in rolling out plans for the night-time economy across more Irish towns and cities.
Minister for Tourism and Culture Catherine Martin announced yesterday that Cork City, Dublin City, Kilkenny, Drogheda and Limerick have now recruited advisors.
Minister Martin said: “I expect the remaining four, Galway City, Longford, Buncrana and Sligo, to get underway shortly. These posts will bring much needed strategic support, local engagement and drive for a more vibrant and diverse night-time economy. ”
A late night museum pilot scheme was also launched yesterday in support of the Night-Time Economy. The “After Hours” strand aims to support small museums and galleries across the country to open later, programme new live events and encourage diversity of offering in small towns and villages across the country. Members of the Museum Standards Programme for Ireland (MSPI) and the Irish Museum Association can apply for up to €10,000 in funding to host late night events this year.
