Uisce Eireann is being urged to immediately begin the promised water mains refurbishment scheme for the Pluck, Rossbracken and Manor areas.
Councillor Gerry McMonagle made the call for ‘urgent intervention’ after being contacted by residents in these areas due to two water outages in just a week.
“This is just not good enough,” he said.
“These residents have put up with so much over these last few years and are at their wits’ end with these water outages. Uisce Eireann must act without further delay to replace this broken water mains system.”
Cllr Donal ‘Mandy’ Kelly added it was ‘absolutely shocking’ that there were three bursts in the area in 12 days.
“I have once again logged this with Irish water and they are on route to resolve this problem. The question is – for how long this time,” he said.
“Although Irish water have put an application forward for funding to have this line upgraded, I am still putting extra pressure on to ensure this application is successful and that this infrastructure is upgraded as soon as possible. This (latest burst) is totally unacceptable for the residents in these areas.”
