The Department of Sport is ready to sign off on the Finn Harps FC new stadium project, it has been confirmed.

Construction on the long-awaited Donegal Community Stadium is on target for completion in 2024.

The stadium in Stranorlar is expected to come in at a total cost of €8M after plans were revised to cut costs last year.

Fianna Fáil Minister and Donegal TD Charlie McConalogue and Cllr Patrick McGowan, this morning confirmed significant progress on the project.

They said: “The Department of Sport is in a position to enter a provisional Grant Agreement with the club to build a state of the art stadium in Stranorlar with a capacity of 5,500. This follows earlier news that the club was awarded €3.9m under the Large Scale Sport Infrastructure Fund (LSSIF) for the project by the Government.”

Commenting, Minister McConalogue said “This confirmation today is a major step forward in this important project for our county. We are working to deliver a state-of-the-art stadium in Donegal. My thanks to all the Finn Harps FC team, board, staff, volunteers and staff for making this happen and to Cllr Patrick McGowan for his hard work too.”

Commenting, Cllr McGowan said “This is an important day for the Twin Towns and an important step forward for Finn Harps. My thanks to Ministers McConalogue, Byrne and Martin for their work in moving along this project and to all involved in Finn Harps in stepping forward the delivery of this project.”
