Independent Councillor Kevin Bradley has been elected as the new Mayor of the Letterkenny-Milford Municipal District.

The businessman said it was an honour to take on the role of Letterkenny’s first citizen.

“It’s an honour to be here today as a proud Letterkenny man,” Cllr Bradley told this evening’s AGM.

Cllr Bradley was joined by a large team of supportive family members and staff from Highland Bakery for the special occasion.

“It’s going to be a good year ahead of us please God,” Cllr Bradley said.

He said he looked forward to working on interesting projects, particularly in housing and the progression of social housing projects in the district.

Cllr Bradley was elected to his first term on Donegal County Council in May 2019.

He will now serve as the chair of Municipal District meetings and represent the area at a national and indeed international level.

“I’m looking forward to working with everybody and doing my best for Letterkenny,” he said.

He also took a moment to remember two much-loved people who he lost in recent years – his mother Josephine and a dear friend, the late Manus Kelly.

Cllr Bradley said he would have a hard act to follow as he takes over the role of Cathaoirleach from Fianna Fáil Cllr Donal ‘Mandy’ Kelly.

In his outgoing speech, Cllr Kelly said he was delighted that most of the goals he wanted to achieve as Mayor have been achieved and progressed in the past year.

Cllr Kelly said: “To say I enjoyed the year is an understatement, it was a great experience and a great honour to carry the chain for the year.

“I want to thank the people of Letterkenny-Milford Municipal District for their support.

“I hope I made my team, family and my colleagues proud.”

Independent Cllr Pauric McGarvey was elected as Deputy Mayor for 2023-2024.

Cllr McGarvey was co-opted to Donegal County Council in February following the retirement of his uncle, Ian.

Cllr McGarvey said: “I’m delighted to take up the role in the seat of my uncle Ian, I’ll be delighted to support you (Kevin) for the year ahead.”
