Live at the Marquee to bring Carndonagh alive next weekend

Carndonagh Traders Association has welcomed everyone to join them in a weekend full of community fun, games and live music next weekend.

Between Thursday 6th and Sunday 9th July the Diamond, Carndonagh will become a hive of activity for all ages to enjoy.

Live in the Marquee was established five years ago to coincide with the 2018 Dubai Irish Open, which was taking place at the Ballyliffin Golf Course, just a few minutes down the road. It is now a much anticipated event for the community and visitors alike in the town.

Each night, from 7pm, two live acts take to the stage to entertain the crowds. Hitting the stage this year:

Thursday: The Rambling Fever Band& David James

Friday: Inch Ramblers& Keltic Knights

Saturday: Typhoon Generals & Ceol

Sunday: Shunie Crampsey & Gerry Guthrie

During the day there is entertainment for the children and plenty of activities to keep them occupied. They can join in the fun and games, create a masterpiece in the arts & crafts sessions and throw some shapes on the dancefloor Saturday afternoon at the kids disco with DJ Scotty.

We see the return of the battle of the bars in the Tug of War, on Sunday 9th at 3pm. This event made its first appearance at Live in the Marquee last year bringing huge crowds out to support and cheer on the competitors. Can the Persian retain the trophy or will one of the other bars snatch victory?

Its eyes down for a full house on Friday (8th), at 3pm for Open Air Bingo, where cash prizes are up for grabs for the lucky winners.

Saturday sees two new events being added to the program. At 4pm the Soapbox Derby gets off to a start as the contestants race their finely tuned, home built soapbox karts from the chapel to the finish line at the bottom of Malin St, navigating a few corners and ramps along the way. The wackier the design of the kart and team costumes the better! They just have to make it to the finish line in the fastest time.

Our other new event is a ball drop, where hundreds of numbered balls will be released at the top of Malin Street. The first three balls to the bottom of the street will win its ‘owner’ a Visit Carndonagh Gift Card, that can be spent in many of the shops, cafés, bars and restaurants in Carndonagh. Pick a number in one of the shops with a line card or buy a ball online through links on our social media or webpage.
