A teenager has been arrested for an alleged offence contrary to the Non-Fatal Against the Persons Act, 1997.

It follows a serious assault on an American tourist on Dublin’s Talbot Street beside Store Street Garda station.

The 57-year-old victim remains in a serious but stable condition in hospital after being punched and kicked in the head after being knocked to the ground near on Wednesday night.

The victim has suffered serious eye and head injuries. Doctors at Beaumont Hospital were yesterday continuing to assess whether there are any long-term brain injuries.

The youth is currently being detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 at a North Dublin Garda Station.

An Garda Síochána had no further comment at this time.
