The continued restoration of day services for older persons in Donegal has been welcomed by two locally based members of the HSE Western Regional Health Forum.
Donegal County Councillors, Ciaran Brogan and Gerry Crawford, said the resumption of older persons’ services is in line with public health guidance.
“The continued improvement in this area is something we are glad to acknowledge and welcome. We are confident that things will continue to improve in this vital sector of our health service,” the Fianna Fáil public representatives commented.
To date, 22-day services have reopened across Donegal. In addition, plans are in progress to expand the number of service provision days in Buncrana, Donegal Town and Killybegs. St. Joseph’s Day Services will reopen in September 2023 providing a four-day per week service.
“Discussions are at an advanced stage for the restoration and re-location of the day care services in Lifford also,” the statement said.
“In relation to Ramelton Day Service, a premises has been identified. HSE Estates and HSE Property Management are progressing with the lease, with an opening date at the end of 2023. There are plans for the day services in Ballyshannon to become operational within the new Ballyshannon Community Hospital.
“The Community Centre in Glengad has been identified as a suitable location for the provision of day care services in the Carndonagh area. Final approval from HSE Estates and IPC is pending.”
A key aim of the HSE programme of Reform of Services for Older People is to support the establishment of the statutory home support scheme and the reform of home support services generally.
A committee have been established on a national basis to progress the statutory home support scheme.
