The Government has approved a total of €125,000 in emergency aid for businesses damaged by flooding in Co Donegal at the weekend.
A number of homes and businesses in Raphoe, Castlefinn, Convoy and Killygordon were hit by the deluge on Saturday evening.
Minister for Enterprise Simon Coveney brought a fast-tracked memo to the Government today for the aid package which will be available immediately.
The scheme is based on information provided by local authorities to the Department of Enterprise on businesses damaged by an extreme weather event last Saturday.
The scheme will be open for applications from the affected businesses with a view to returning them to trading quickly.
In response, fire appliances were deployed to Castlefinn from a number of stations and also to Convoy while road staff were also mobilised to areas impacted by flooding within the river Deele and Finn Valley areas.
Sandbags were distributed to householders and businesses and measures were implemented to divert floodwaters where possible. Civil Defence units were also involved in the operation.
Donegal County Council said that there had been no prior warning of an escalated risk for anywhere in the county.
Minister for Agriculture Charlie McConalogue visited the area on Monday morning to see first-hand the damage caused by the floods.
