After Finn Harps’ recent good run came to an abrupt 4-1 end in Athlone last night, Dave Rogers has demanded a reaction from his players for the visit of Treaty United to Finn Park this Friday.
Having followed up a superb home performance last Friday, where runaway leaders Galway were outplayed for long periods, the nature of the 4-1 defeat to the midlanders was a blow. However, the Harps boss was refreshingly honest in his assessment after the game.
“That’s the worst performance we’ve had all season since myself and Darren have been here,” he said.
“It’s just not acceptable, and I’ve told the boys that. Against Galway United on Friday, when we stood toe-to-toe with them, used a lot of energy and got on the front foot, that was exactly what we’re looking for. But tonight, that was not a Dave Rogers’ team, and they know that. I’m expecting a big response when we play Treaty United on Friday”.
Friday’s heroics saw a home performance that left supporters optimistic and the playoff spot seemingly in their grasp. The character shown to rescue a late point, and the scenes of celebration at the final whistle showed the bond between this squad and the loyal Harps support – you can see both goals a from all the angles on FHTV at https://youtu.be/VrqUM0_btsQ
Harps now face three straight home games and they know they can rely on their supporters once again. Despite last night’s defeat, they remain just three points outside the playoff spots, and face a Treaty side with three straight league defeats behind them.
Tickets are on sale now at https://finnharps.ie/tickets/ and will also be available at the Chestnut Road (Aldi) entrance on the night as usual.
