Two Ballybofey brothers have been praised for restoring an east Donegal beauty spot that was hit by vandalism earlier in the week.
The Gort Scith amenity, between Stranorlar and Killygordon, was ruined by pro IRA graffiti on Tuesday or earlier.
The writing was daubed on the street, on signage, on tree trunks and on car parking spaces.
The act of vandalism was greatly disappointing to local residents, as the facility was enhanced just recently with support from Donegal County Council, BASICC and locals.
Following an appeal for information, Stephen and Alex Mc Cafferty from SMC Painting and Landscaping Contractor volunteered their services to remove the unsightly slogans.
Stephen and Alex worked through the weekend to skilfully remove all of the slogans / paint to leave everything as it was, if not better. They restored a new solar bin at Drumboe Woods which was also written on this week.
Spokesman for the local community group, Frank Kelly, said: “A big shout out to these men. They definitely deserve your support going forward.”
Mr Kelly says there has also been some positive feedback from gardaí as they continue to search for those responsible for the grafitti.
