Letterkenny athlete Mark English has made it through to the semi-finals of the 800 metres at the World Championships in Hungary.

The Finn Valley man posted a season’s best of 1.45.71 and qualified as a fastest runner-up.

English had to overcome a stumble after about 300 metres to finish fourth in his heat with only the first three athletes qualifying.

The Donegal man finished strongly and put himself in with a strong chance.

Mark was forced to watch all the other athletes compete in the seven heats before knowing he was safely through.

He will now race in those semi-finals on Thursday.
