If your name is Aoife and you tossed a message in a bottle four years ago, you could be in luck!

A transatlantic search is underway to find an Irish girl who wrote a message that has made an incredible 5,000km journey across the sea to the USA.

The bottle was discovered intact on a beach in Wildwood New Jersey this week. Local couple Karen and Frank Bolger were doing a beach clean when they made the mysterious find.

The letter inside was signed only by ‘Aoife’ and dated July 17, 2019.

Donegal has had its fair share of bottles washing up over the years, so there’s a good chance that Aoife could be from the northwest and inspired by the tradition.

But with no surname or address, the possibilities are endless.

The letter, as shared by The Wildwood Sun by the Sea Magazine, says: “I have thrown this bottle into the sea for someone to find another day.

“Maybe it’s traveled down to Africa or to Iceland!

“I won’t know if someone found this, but I hope it is found!”

The search is now on to find Aoife and let her know that her message has been found.

The Bolgers have taken to social media to try and track down the mystery writer and hopefully write back to her. The search has already captured the imagination of people all over the beach city of Wildwood.
